My art revolves around an autobiographical statement about my significance and identity in my household. It reflects on my experiences with trauma, the constant search for a refuge and seeking a resolution with myself.  I believe in the complete truth and vulnerability of autobiographical art, which transcends into the artist's psyche.

ABOUT

ARTIST STATEMENT

Raised in a strict and dysfunctional family, Karen (B, 1997, Singapore) had learned to take refuge in the comfort of creating. Her artistic practice follows her views with her religion, the confrontation of trauma and her struggle with cultural identity.  She believes in the immediacy and authenticity of expression. With her autobiographical works, she is able to confront her past and expose her vulnerability.

She was awarded Gold in the 2012 Singapore Youth Festival competition and has showcased her work in the winners exhibition.
